We have recently been developing a new Sculpture Garden Concept for Dorset County Museum located in Dorchester.
Integral to our concept is the Dorset Jurassic Coast and the Ammonite inspired sweeping steps and sculpture podium. The large aperture windows have a wide cill creating space for seating and serve to link the exterior sculptures with the interior space. This allows children and adults alike to sit, observe and contemplate the sculptures from inside particularly on rainy days.
The inclusion of the green wall serves to soften the outdoor space to create a relaxing environment in which to reflect. The integrated seating strategically sets the scene for a more dynamic view of the boar sculpture opposite.
The material landscape elements were specifically selected to recreate a flavour of the Dorset Landscape. We specifically developed our scheme to include level access which the museum has worked hard to address with their new refurbishment and infill building, which is currently being progressed on-site.
